MARTIAL ARTS

Discipline with purpose. Strength without ego.

Grandmaster Ip Man with Bruce Lee

At Bamboo Five, our martial arts foundation is rooted in Wing Chun (詠春) — a Chinese system known for its calm precision, internal focus, and practical depth.

Originally developed by a woman, Wing Chun is a soft, internal martial art that’s rich in nuance, yet deceptively simple. It centres on close-range efficiency, centreline control, structural alignment, and tactile sensitivity. Movements are compact and deliberate , favouring intelligent timing over brute force.

We honour its traditional teachings, including structured grading, uniforms, and ethical principles passed down through generations. But we also recognise that not everyone seeks formality. Some come for tradition. Others simply want to feel safer, stronger, or more grounded in their body.

That’s why we offer two distinct paths for adults:
One traditional. One applied.
And for children, a structured program designed to develop focus, discipline, and confidence from an early age.

TRADITIONAL WING CHUN (Adults)

Our lineage traces directly back to Grandmaster Ip Man (葉問), through his nephew Lo Man Kam (盧文錦) in Taiwan, passed to Sifu Bruce Cheng (陳正信), and now continued here — taught with clarity, respect, and integrity.

Students train in uniform and follow a formal belt system. Sessions include forms, drills, conditioning, and partnered applications — but always rooted in core martial values: humility, patience, and inner discipline.

Wednesdays 7:00-8:30pm

Ideal for those seeking structured progression, technical depth, and a deeper connection to traditional martial arts culture.

TRADITIONAL WING CHUN (Kids)

Our kids program introduces young students to martial arts in a way that is disciplined yet encouraging, structured yet fun. Classes emphasise balance, posture, focus, and respect — for both self and others.

Kids progress through a formal belt system, training in uniform to instill a sense of pride, responsibility, and commitment. But more than technique, we teach values — patience, effort, self-regulation, and emotional resilience that carries beyond the training space.

We don’t just teach kids how to defend themselves.

We teach them how to stand tall — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Wednesdays 5:30-6:45pm

Ideal for kids aged 6+ who would benefit from structure, discipline, and a values-based approach to movement and self-development.

APPLIED MARTIAL ARTS (Adults)

Not everyone wants a belt or a syllabus — some simply want to know how to defend themselves.

This path distils the most functional elements of martial arts into a clear, adaptable format. Drawing from Wing Chun, Taekwondo, kickboxing, and MMA, sessions focus on striking, movement, reflex training, and scenario-based drills that build practical confidence and control.

Fridays 6:30-8:00pm

Ideal for adults seeking a flexible, practical introduction to martial arts, without the formal structure.
